Marie Louise McConville: I've discovered online buying and selling and it has changed my life

I'm not one to blow my own trumpet but I'm feeling pretty darn proud of myself this week.

I've never really considered myself as someone with a business head but hey, things change and undiscovered talents can suddenly flourish.

As our redecorating project continues, things at home have become a bit tight - in the sense that we are running out of space to store everything that's been moved to make way for the decorating.

With boxes piled here and lamps stacked there and with next to no space in our kitchen and having bumped my thigh and ankle against the boxes countless times, I decided enough was enough.

But, what to do?

I had a brain wave, if we have no room to store it and we don't want to dump it, how about trying to sell it?

As it was something I had never done before, I got to researching and came across a number of local buy and sell sites and from the looks of things, this has been a whole other way of life I knew nothing about.

So I took time to photograph my items over the course of a few weeks and uploaded them, watched that space and I am so glad I did.

From the off, I was contacted by people to wanted to buy and collect straight away.

First to go were two leather recliners.

They were only up a matter of hours when a man with a van came and away they went.

Then it was time for the bookcase, which was gone the next night.

After that came the DVD stand and the TV cabinet - both sold.

Loving my new `Del Boy' way of life, I then sent Darren into the attic to bring down both cot beds and in the blink of an eye, a lady who is expecting her third set of twins, quickly purchased them - gone.

I achieved my aim of creating space but, feeling like Alan Sugar and loving the success of a sweet deal, I am pulling the house apart looking for more things to sell.

Currently, I am eyeing up the pram and the buggy but I am just not ready.

Basically, nothing in our house is safe at the moment and I've told Darren and the kids, if it's not nailed down, it's at risk.

The place has never looked so tidy.

Of course, being £150 up is nice but I'm also proud of myself because I am also helping the environment in my own little way as none of the items have gone to the dump and then to landfill.

This time next year who knows how much money I'll have made.

Of course, the house will be bare but I'll be rich.

Lovely Jubbly.

Christmas 2020 is saved.

Just try to forget the doom and the gloom for one moment and savour the Christmas Chip.

If you do just one thing this week, take a socially-distanced trip to Ashvale Farm Shop, on the old Ballynahinch Road in Lisburn, and order a takeaway `Christmas Chip' - it is just amazing.

Consisting of chips, turkey, ham, festive stuffing, home-made cranberry sauce, home-grown brussels sprouts and rich gravy, it is the perfect Christmas party in your mouth.

I had one this week and haven't been able to stop thinking about it since.

Just phenomenal.
