This popular and well-known wine producer makes a crisp and enjoyable style of dry Riesling that’s definitely one to try – especially if this grape is not one you’re familiar with. With aromas of lemon, lime and white flowers, limey fruit is supported by zingy intensity, with pleasant acidity and the freshness to pair with many dishes. It would go well with with a pot of chilli or fish dishes.

Finca Las Moras Barrel Select Malbec, Argentina, £8.25, Co-op

This wine has been aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels – which enriches the wine with balance, elegance and distinction. Berry aromas come with hints of mint and other green herbs. It’s a really nice wine, with creamy weight, offset by subtle acidity. Plum, blackberry and herbal notes comprise the flavours. Dry tannins give the finish a big punch. Would pair well with any meals that include lots of spice.

WINE OF THE WEEK

The Pledge Sauvignon Blanc, South Africa, £10.99, Lidl

Cooling ocean breezes ensure the Western Cape of South Africa is well suited to growing Sauvignon Blanc – and this is a really nice example. Pale gold with a hint of green in the glass, this wine smells of kiwi and gooseberries. In the mouth it is silky and quite delicate with flavours of lime zest. Would pair well with monkfish, baked salmon or cold meats.
