Tomorrow is Father’s Day and perhaps your dad is a man of simple pleasures; someone who loves a juicy steak with a glass of luscious red. Try this for the Malbec man... It is a special blend from Catena’s High Mountain Estate Vineyards in Mendoza, with aromas of ripe plum and cherry with delicate floral and vanilla notes. The palate is rich with flavours of ripe blackberry and spice with a long finish.

Faustino I Gran Reserva Rioja, Spain, £14, Asda

Rioja is a big favourite for dads and this is one of the better ones. With deep cherry-red tones, the nose is intense and complex with sweet notes of vanilla, spice and ripe fruit which follows through to the palate. Well structured and elegant with good acidity, leading to a warming, sweet, ripe fruity finish. A wine that stands out from the crowd... Serve with a a roast beef or lamb dinner or his favourite cheeseboard.

WINE OF THE WEEK

Carles Priorat Crianza, Spain, £7.99, Lidl

For dads who like their wine to pack a punch this is great value. From the Spain’s Priorat region – it primarily produces powerful red wines – this is a full-bodied red from a blend of Carignan and Grenache. Showing ripe, dark fruit characters with a note of black pepper, this dry, smooth red is perfect with grilled meats such as steak, or can be enjoyed with lamb chops... or simply on its own.
