How to Fail Elizabeth Day’s Podcast

Mo Gawdat is an inspirational speaker who has known success and wealth in the world of technology but has always been intrigued by what makes people happy.

It turns out it isn’t the money.

He has written a book about it and, in these testing times, he was on hand to offer a little wisdom along the way.

It was worth the listen – you can get the podcast, it’s part of journalist and author Elizabeth Day’s series, How to Fail.

This chat was specifically recorded for this time of hardship and suffering across the world.

And he said, he feels for people who are suffering or who have lost people they love, for those to who have lost livelihoods.

But there is positive in this collective pause.

He also sees this a moment of reflection and a time to connect with other people.

It’s an eye opening phase in humanity’s life. Disasters can be interesting wake-up calls.

Gawdat’s son, Ali, died at the age of 21 during what ought to have been a routine appendix operation.

He speaks openly about Ali who, he says, was a son and also much more a true friend and a real teacher who taught him so much.

When they played the game Halo together, he’d run immediately to get to the next level.

What Ali taught him was to slow down and to enjoy the game, to enjoy this level.

He taught him to run towards the smoke and explosions – because this is where you develop and grow, where you become a better gamer.

And therein is a lesson for life.

It was an easy relaxed chat filled with compassion for everyone out there and lightened with laughter along the way.

It felt like an oasis amid the tempest outside the front door.
