SHOES with a curved sole that make you feel unstable, may ease back pain. Researchers analysed results from previous trials that included 251 patients with lower back pain and found that wearing so-called rocker bottom shoes could improve movement and lower pain levels.

Conventional flat shoes may provide stability, but weaken muscles in the body that can lead to back pain, said the researchers from Gansu Hospital in China.

Writing in the journal Clinical Rehabilitation, they said the curved sole means the body has to move and sway to maintain balance, and, as a result, the muscles of the lower back are made to work harder and get stronger – which eases pain levels.
