So, it's finally happened.

After waiting at least two decades, seeing all his movies over and over, even holidaying in Italy in the hope of catching a glimpse of him, finally, George Clooney has asked me on a date.

I always knew deep down that it would happen and to be honest, Darren was well warned before we got married.

He was told that while I love him, he was simply the man of the moment and really, long term, my heart belonged to George and if the offer ever came up, I'd be gone.

Darren will therefore be heartbroken to learn that George has asked me to come visit him at his stunning £10 million 18th century Lake Como villa.

Okay, so, the offer did not actually come from him and his stunning wife, Amal, and okay, they didn't mention me by name but I just know, deep down, the invitation is meant for me.

It all started last week when gorgeous George posted a video of his lovely self.

Speaking in the video, George said: "Hi, I’m Amal Clooney’s husband George and we’d like you to come with us to Lake Como.

''That's right. To benefit the Clooney Foundation for Justice, we're inviting you and a guest to go on a double date with Amal, a world-renowned human rights lawyer, law school professor and a leading thinker on the concept of justice throughout the world.

"And me... an actor. Just picture it: you and Amal, wine in your hand, discussing current affairs while her husband... quietly serves lunch".

He further adds: "And I am the two-time Sexiest Man Alive. I played Danny Ocean in the Oceans movies".

In return, the winner will enjoy lunch with the couple and also have a photograph taken with them.

The winner's airfare will also be paid and they will be put up in a nearby four-star hotel.

In order to enter the sweepstake draw, interested parties can choose to pay a set amount, ranging from $10 for 100 entries to $5,000 for 50,000 entries.

Personally, I think this is all just a front so Amal doesn't know George wants to see me.

It's so sweet that he is going to so much trouble.

I suppose I'll just have to play along.

I mean I'm sure he and I will be able to steal a little moment here and there when he shows me around his luxurious estate which includes a villa with 25 rooms, ornately carved ceilings, massive bathrooms and a separate 'pizza room' as well as an outdoor theatre and swimming pool.

Wow.

So, I guess there's only one thing left to do - can anyone lend me $5,000 to buy my entries please?

Come on, it's for a really good cause.

Oh dear, someone is feeling a bit gloomy about themselves.

English heart-throb Hugh Grant has said he is too old, ugly and fat to star in rom-coms any more.

The 58-year-old has also revealed that taking the male lead in such films left him with an inferiority complex.

"I've gotten too old and ugly and fat to do them any more, so now I've done other things and I've got marginally less self-hatred," he said.

Oh Hugh, I loved you in the Bridget Jones movies.

Here's hoping you'll reconsider, after all, what lady doesn't a swoon over an older man?
