Marie Louise McConville: My summer is looking up thanks to the return of Love Island

Love Island 2019 may only have just returned to our screens this week - but already I am hooked
Love Island 2019 may only have just returned to our screens this week - but already I am hooked Love Island 2019 may only have just returned to our screens this week - but already I am hooked

I'm already absolutely smitten.

So, just take note.

Between the hours of 9pm and 11pm each night, do not try to phone me, text me, private message me, WhatsApp me, call at my home, knock my window, climb over my fence.....because Love Island is on and I do not want to miss a single second of it. Do you all understand?

Yes, I know it has only been back on our screens a matter of days but from the first note of the famous theme tune, I was sucked back in and the whole night time routine in our house has had to be adjusted so mummy can indulge in her addiction.

Now, I know not everyone is on board with this, especially after the last few weeks when shows such as Love Island have come in for some tough criticism in regards to the after care of contestants but we have been assured this year that new measures have been introduced to look after the welfare of those taking part - and what a group they are.

The first thing that struck me this week was what wonderful role models some of these guys are.

Among the girls we have a scientist, a pharmacist and an air hostess and among the boys we have an aircraft engineer, a business owner and a firefighter, who also has a degree in biomedical sciences.

Well, I don't think that's too shabby a start.

And, aside from some of the pretty impressive occupations, I was also struck by how many of the women, in particular, have shown respect and support for and to their female house mates, speaking to them kindly. I've yet to see Queen-bitchy raise her ugly head.

But, of course, in true Love Island style, it wasn't long before some of the men starting acting up.

Gym owner Anton, who had coupled up with sweet Amy, admitted in his video clip that he had a wandering eye and it didn't take long for him to attempt to steal Lucie away from the lovely Joe - what a cheek.

Anton is already in my bad books, I'm not keen on him at all.

My money is on Amy, Lucie or Irish beauty, Yuwende and for the men, I'm backing Callum - who has lovely manners - and Joe, who seems very caring.

So, that's me sorted for the next eight weeks.

I'm looking forward to some sexy highs and some heartbreak lows and those all important sunshine antics.

Why don't you join me, go on, you know you want to....

Britain's Got Talent legend Susan Boyle has asked fellow Scottish pop star, Lewis Capaldi to form a new `supergroup' with her.

The I Dreamed A Dream singer made the offer on social media.

Messaging the singer, who also hails from West Lothian, Ms Boyle said: "Congratulations @LewisCapaldi on your first UK Number 1 album. Welcome to the club! Now how about that Scottish super group you mentioned?"

She also posted a video message, in which she said: ""Right Mr Capaldi, less of your peely-wally. Let's discuss that supergroup. Come on over".

I like your style Ms Boyle.

Best of luck with that.

Competition

It’s almost time to reunite with some long lost friends, so how you fancy winning a family pass to Toy Story 4?

Nine years after Toy Story 3 hit our screens, the fourth instalment in the franchise arrives at cinemas on June 21.

In the new movie, we find Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys still with Bonnie, who creates a new toy from arts and crafts, named Forky.

Forky suffers an existential crisis about being a toy and the others try to help him.

However, when Bonnie and her family go on a road trip, Forky escapes and Woody goes to save him, becoming separated from the group near a small town.

As Buzz and the others try to help find Woody, Woody finds Bo Peep among other toys in the town's antique shop, and she gives him a new outlook on what being a toy is really about.

I have two family passes for Toy Story 4 at Movie House Cinemas to give away.

If you fancy winning a voucher, simply email your name, address and telephone number – along with the answer to the question below – to competitions@irishnews.com

Closing date for entries is 12 noon on Tuesday, June 11, 2019
