Wine: A stern label with a soft centre – a red winter warmer
19 Crimes Red Wine 2017, South East Australia (Currently reduced to £7 from £8.98, Asda)
Celebrating the rebellious spirit of ‘British rogues who were guilty of at least one of 19 crimes and sentenced to live in Australia, rather than death', the offence in this case would be not to buy more of this popular wine (especially while it's on special offer). A stern label with a soft centre, its red fruity nose and jammy, juicy fruits are enriched with sweet spice. Shiraz flavours dominate, with finishes of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc, Tesco, was £9.50, now £7.50 until November 12.
Marlborough's long sunny days and cool climate leads to a long ripening season and a unique combination of very ripe fruit alongside fresh acidity. This is a stunning Sauvignon Blanc from one of New Zealand's most famous producers. Fresh, tropical, grapefruity and grassy, this zesty wine is certainly made to make your mouth water. This wine is why Kiwi Sauvignons are so popular the world over.
WINE OF THE WEEK
McGuigan Estate South Australian Shiraz, Sainsbury's, £5.
This is a classic red one for the cold winter nights and at the price you'll not find anything better at the supermarket. This wine is a rich and spicy, full-bodied wine that fills the mouth with blackberries with a warm and spicy finish. Shiraz is a great
food wine – enjoy with roast
beef or a steak dinner or just
put your feet up beside the fire with a glass.
