LOCAL children are being encouraged to explore the great outdoors with the help of popular picture book character, Stick Man.

Belfast's Colin Glen Forest Park, which already has a popular Gruffalo trail, is one of only four venues in the UK choosen to pilot the new Stick Man trail (installed thanks to the support of brand owner Magic Light Pictures).

Based on the much-loved picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the self-guided trails offers an interactive learning experience for three to seven year olds.

Brightly coloured boards feature Stick Man and other characters from the picture book encouraging children to explore the natural world and learn how things grow.

"We’re really happy to be the first site in Northern Ireland to host this trail. Stick Man is extremely popular with young children, so we’re expecting a great deal of interest from regular visitors to the forest park and hopefully some new visitors, who’ll appreciate and support the work we do at Colin Glen Forest Park," says Colin O’Neill, chief executive at Colin Glen Trust.
