- UNTIL November 11, spend £60 or more in a single transaction at Tesco and you'll get a voucher for 10p off each litre of petrol or diesel you buy at the supermarket chain's filling stations, up to a maximum of 100 litres. Coupons issued in store are valid for two weeks. Those issued with online orders are valid until November 19. Some goods and services are excluded from the qualifying spend. For full details go to http://tinyurl.com/y6woksgh (it's a quick link to the terms and conditions section of www.tesco.com) and click on 'fuel promotion'.

- Ferry operator P&O is offering motorists from Northern Ireland £15 of free fuel on sailings to Scotland. You need to book by October 26 but the deal is valid for travel between Larne and Cairnryan until January 8. It applies to trips of five nights or more only. Cars, motorcycles and motorhomes are eligible. If you're more adventurous, the same deal applies to sailings between Dover and Calais. After you book, you'll be given a code and instructions on how to claim back the cost of your fuel (which you must do by April 8 next year). For more information visit www.poferries.com or call 0800 130 0030 to book a ticket using the promotional code FREEFUEL.

- Electric cars are finally gaining traction in the mass media and watercooler discussions - and since we've been discussing how to save money on fuel, it’s worth mentioning that an EV is likely to save you money for each mile you drive. Compare your monthly fuel bill to the lease price of an EV. Charging at home costs very little and almost every single public charge point in Ireland, north and south, remains free to use (for the next few months at least, according to ESB which runs them). So the fuel saving could mean you punch above your weight in the standard of car you can afford. Find out more about electric motoring at www.goultralow.com and leaf through the pages of this newspaper - especially the weekly Drive section - for dealers’ latest prices on fully electric vehicles as well as plug-in hybrids. Non plug-in hybrids do offer more miles per gallon than standard combustion-engine cars but the rule of thumb is: The more you plug in, the cheaper your motoring.

- Here's a corker: Buy six or more bottles of wine (including champagne) at Tesco and you'll get 25 per cent off. The offer is valid in store or online but your delivery must take place by October 30 to qualify for the discount.
