- FANCY free French fries on Friday? Download, install and register with KFC's free Colonel's Club smartphone app and you can claim a free portion each week. No purchase is necessary. The freebie will appear in the 'my rewards' and 'offers' section of the app. The promotion runs until November 3 and is valid until 11pm only. You get one free portion per app user, per Friday, but you can claim a portion every week. When you first sign up to the app, you'll get a free portion of any of the following two: two hot wings; regular soft drink; small popcorn chicken; or ice cream sundae. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

- Until August 25, O2 mobile phone customers can get a free scoop of ice cream (certain flavours only) at Thorntons. You use the O2 Priority smartphone app to get a code which you redeem in store. Each day 2,000 codes are available. Franchise stores are excluded. Find your nearest at www.thorntons.co.uk/store-locator. If you are successful in getting a code, wait until you arrive at the store before you click 'use it now', because it expires 15 minutes after you press the button.

- Consumer website MoneySavingExpert has arranged a special deal with Sky that gets new customers broadband and phone line rental for the equivalent of £11.17 per month. A new customer is classed as anyone who hasn't had Sky services in the past 12 months. You pay an up-front set-up fee of £19.95 and then get a year's free up-to-17Mb broadband with unlimited downloads when you pay £9.50 per month line rental.
