NETFLIX unveiled the first teaser trailer for its upcoming $100m budget original movie Bright this week, giving us the first look at Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as cops in an alternate reality where "humans, orcs, elves and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time".

Directed by David Ayer (who helmed the critically loathed Suicide Squad, also featuring Smith) and written by Max Landis (whose entertainingly crazed adaptation of Douglas Adam's Dirk Gently books was a success for Netflix last year), Bright's fantasy-informed 'supernatural cop thriller' has shades of classic 80s sci-fi Alien Nation in its DNA.

It follows a human policeman Ward (Smith), and his orc partner, Jakoby (Edgerton, recently seen in the movie Loving) – mismatched by personality as well as species, naturally – as they struggle to protect a young female elf and an all-powerful relic from falling into the wrong hands.

Noomi Rapace (Avatar), Jay Hernandez (The Expanse, Suicide Squad), Kenneth Choi (Sons of Anarchy) and Margaret Cho (30 Rock) are among the other cast members involved in the high-profile project, which will be available to watch in December.

Until then, check out the first Bright teaser on Netflix.com right now and stay tuned for further clips.
