DOWN

Have you ever wondered what all the fuss is about opera? Portico Portaferry invites you to the first season of its Opera Film Club, screening La Bohème, this Saturday, March 4. Music critic Michael Quinn will introduce each screening, telling us about the composers, operas and productions – all from the world’s greatest opera houses. During the screening there will be an interval of 15 minutes when a complimentary glass of wine or tea/coffee will be served, with the opportunity to discuss the film further with like-minded individuals. The evening will end in good time for those who wish to catch the last ferry to Strangford at 10.45pm.

March celebrates the patron Saint Patrick so there will be live music from the local children's folk group, an Irish dancing display from the in-house Irish dance school, food sampling, storytelling for the children and an Irish stew lunch.

DERRY

c21 Theatre Company presents a hilarious rural rom-com set in the fictitious town of Ardnaglass. Experience Ireland’s top premiere rural community radio station and join Hugh Francis O’Connell and Margaret Mary-Rose for the latest community news, all the gossip and who’s kicked the bucket. Hilarious, cheerful, surprising and tearful, this production has a recommended audience age of 16-plus years. Roe Valley Arts Centre, Limavady, Thursday March 2.

ANTRIM

Ballymoney prides itself on hosting the oldest Drama Festival in Ireland. This year Ballymoney presents its 78th season of plays in Ballymoney Town Hall. There will be seven plays performed by some of the best and best-known amateur companies in the north of Ireland. The first performance will be on Saturday and then the Festival runs from Monday to Saturday March 6-11.

BELFAST

The Dirty Onion Beer Garden will be playing host to a wide range of artisanal, craft and food vendors for the first ever Spring Cathedral Fair on Sunday, 12-4pm. Be sure to head over to Belfast Flea across the road in The Black Box – they have all things second hand, vintage, retro, antique, bric-a-brac, pre-loved and bargains galore.
