Jennifer Garner throws shade at Ben Affleck

GEORGE Clooney, husband of Sleb Safari’s second favourite human rights lawyer (the first being Mark Darcy), has thrown a pity party with an ultra-exclusive guest list; to wit, he was the only guest.

George says he’ll be taking a step back from the acting job because no-one wants to see an old geezer on the big screen.

Hang on a Clooney minute, you’re only 54 George, not 154.

“I think nobody really wants to see anybody really age,” he told the BBC.

“You know, it’s a very unforgiving thing, the camera is, and so aging becomes something that, you know, you try to do less and less onscreen.

“You try to pick the films that work best for you and as you age they become less and less.”

Bless his heart for trying to pick films that “work best” for him. Are they ones without close ups or where he has to wear a prosthesis like a fake nose? Sleb Safari would love to know.

George, listen to the much younger and wiser Sleb Safari, give yourself a shake and get the ball rolling on Ocean’s 14 or ER: The Movie.

One lady who’s not throwing a pity party is Jennifer Garner. Have you read her interview in Vanity Fair? She throws zingers Ben Affleck’s way, all wrapped in candy floss and a big smile.

It’s more damning than if she’d openly berated him.

“I didn’t marry the big fat movie star; I married him,” she says. “And I would go back and remake that decision. I ran down the beach to him (at their wedding), and I would again.

“You can’t have these three babies and so much of what we had. He’s the love of my life. What am I going to do about that? He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous.

“He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”

What does that mean? Where else was the sun shining? On the nanny?

She continues: “We still have to help each other get through this. He’s still the only person who really knows the truth about things. And I’m still the only person that knows some of his truths.”

Bloomin’ heck. Jennifer knows where the bodies are buried and she’s reminding Ben of that.

And that hideous phoenix tattoo on his back? “You know what we would say in my hometown about that? ‘Bless his heart’.”

Jennifer Garner you are a player and Sleb Safari doffs its hat to you.

Who you gonna call? Nughostbusters

IT’S difficult rebooting a popular film franchise, Sleb Safari suspects, but it is greatly looking forward to the all-new, all-female Ghostbusters.

In fact only one other film due for release this year has piqued Sleb Safari’s interest more and that’s the third Bridget Jones instalment.

The first trailer for the new Ghostbusters was finally released last week and it looks tip-top.

The premise is this: someone has created a device that amplifies paranormal activity and the Ghostbusters are going to put that right. And Slimer's back!

The trailer promises us ectoplasm, Ecto-1, laughts from Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones and ghosts inhabiting human bodies. What else do you need to know?

Strap on your proton packs and prepare for the ride.

Competition Winners

The winners of tickets to see Sharon Shannon in concert in Lanyon Hall, Cookstown, were Gerard O'Kane from Swatragh in Co Derry, Ronan McVeigh from Newcastle in Co Down and Daniel Quinn from Moortown in Co Tyrone.

Tough Love For Christina Hendricks

FEEL as though no-one takes you seriously, not even your parents? You’re not along, Christina Hendricks is in the same boat and she’s a 40-year-old siren with a great career and a healthy bank balance.

Christina – who played Joan Holloway in Mad Men – told The Times that as long as she’s working and paying the bills “ I feel successful” and yet “every year or so my father says to me, ‘Well, you’re almost there.’

“And I wonder what he’s talking about. I have a feeling I have been ‘there’ for a very long time. I felt like I was ‘there’ when I was 24. But apparently I’m still on my way.”

There’s no pleasing some people, eh?
