EVERY year, Dulux reveals its chromatic forecast for the coming year, selecting one shade it predicts will reign above all others.

The outlook for 2016? It's warm, as sunny Cherished Gold replaces Copper Blush as the chosen one.

More subdued than sunflower but brighter than brass, this yellowy hue also happens to be trending in the worlds of fashion and beauty, so now's the perfect time to become a gold-digger.

Make the transition into 2016 with these gilded goodies...

MAKE IT METALLIC

Miuccia Prada is known for her idiosyncratic approach to fashion, and for SS16 she gave models make-up to match: an intense gold lip complemented the print-heavy collection.

It's not a look many people will be lining up to try, but MAC's forthcoming Faerie Whispers collection is full of easy-to-wear metallic make-up.

The Foiled Shadow in Fairy Land, £16, is a delicate brown-gold that works from a subtle wash to a more dramatic layer (available January; www.maccosmetics.co.uk).

From the radiant Festive collection, Burberry Eye Colour Cream in Festive Gold, £25, is a similar texture but a brighter, more shimmery hue (www.burberry.com).

For the ultimate indulgence, it doesn't get more decadent than By Terry's Baume de Rose Trio, currently reduced to £125 from £250 (www.harrods.com), a set of ultra-nourishing white, rose and yellow 24K gold-infused balms.

GROWN-UP GLITTER

The humble snow globe has had not one but two glittering makeovers this season.

My Burberry Festive Eau de Parfum Limited Edition, £90 for 90ml (www.burberry.com), sees the English garden-inspired scent laced with glistening flecks, while Nails Inc's Snow Globe Nail Polish, currently reduced to £7.50 from £15, requires a thorough shake to ensure its precious cargo is dispersed and ready to paint (www.nailsinc.com).

Mavala's Glamour collection comprises six sparkling varnishes, densely packed with sizeable metallic flecks that create a mirrorball effect. Glam Chic, £4.75, a warm blend of gold and copper, is the closest to Cherished Gold (www.johnlewis.com).

SKIRTING THE ISSUE

Take inspiration from Oscar de la Renta's winter catwalk with an Eighties homage shimmering skirt.

Look for structured fabrics, like leather or quilted scuba material, that look great paired with cashmere or soft mohair knits - tonal cream or taupe shades, plus flat brown boots or brogues, make for a chic weekend look.

By night, make a metallic sequinned skirt the focus of your outfit, keeping it simple on your top half with a silk tee and tailored blazer.

BAGS OF GOLD

As for accessories, the Midas touch shouldn't just be limited to tiny evening clutches – a metallic handbag is a sound investment for spring.

Modalu's gold collection sees a handful of the brand's bestsellers reimagined in chic, pale gold leather, like the versatile Small Pippa Grab Bag, £249, with top or cross body carrying options (www.modalu.com).

If your wardrobe veers more towards the dark side, an unstructured tote with a distressed gold finish, like the Heine Metallic Handbag, £75, will see you through the season (www.kaleidoscope.co.uk).
