VITARA RETURNS TO SUZUKI LINE-UP

Suzuki has a new Vitara compact SUV arriving in showrooms, with what looks like - on-paper, at least - a great blend of practicality, kit, engines and value-for-money.

Plus, Suzuki has a well-deserved reputation for building well-engineered, fun-to-drive cars.

Sporting five-doors, choice of two- and four-wheel-drive transmissions and a high level of specification, including Bluetooth, seven airbags, DAB radio and various smartphone connectivity options, Vitara prices start at £13,999 and stretch to £21,299.

Petrol and diesel engines are available - both of 1.6-litre capacity, and both with 118bhp. Meanwhile, Suzuki has improved the Swift 4x4 (inset) with the addition of its petrol 1.2-litre Dualjet engine, giving lower CO2 emissions, improved fuel economy and cheaper road tax than the standard 1.2-litre model.

It might be a niche product but the Swift 4x4 is an impressive piece of kit and well worth the £14,199 Suzuki now charges for it with the Dualjet engine.

And if you think that's too expensive for a tiny 4x4, Suzuki will still sell you a Swift 4x4 with the older 1.2-litre engine for £12,099.
