Life

Anew direction

I'M A little surprised at The Libertine's choice of producer for their first album in more than 10 years. Considering that the band's first two albums were produced by none other than Mick Jones from The Clash, you might be forgiven for thinking that someone of similar suitable origin might be drafted in to shape what is a crucial chapter in the band's story. However, Jake Gosling has been tasked with helping Pete Doherty and Carl Barat find their mutual mojo and make an album that will define whether or not things should have been left well alone in 2004.

Jake Gosling has expertly produced huge hit albums for the likes of One Direction and Ed Sheeran - music which you could imagine Doherty and Barat running away from, screaming their heads off. Now that the band are signed to a major record label maybe there is now a commercial outlook which would have been most unlikely in the golden years of The Libertines. Gosling is an excellent producer so let's reserve judgment until we hear the outcome - but talk about two worlds colliding... This could be a genius collaboration or a complete calamity. Hurry up and release it. I can't wait.
