Mobile payments on the increase

NEARLY half of people in the UK who have a device such as a smartphone or tablet expect to use mobile payment apps over the coming year, a report has found.

But the UK lags behind countries such as Turkey, Poland, the United States, Italy and Spain - which had higher levels of expected take-up of mobile payment apps in the next 12 months, according to the ING International Survey on Mobile Banking.

In the UK, 46 per cent of people who own a mobile device intend to use a mobile payment app in the next 12 months, while nearly one in three (30 per cent) people already use mobile payments. More than 14,800 consumers living in 15 countries took part in the survey.
