Celtic connections

THE University of St Andrew's Chamber Orchestra is set to make its Northern Ireland debut with performances featuring two students with local connections. On Wednesday March 25, it will appear in a joint free concert with the choir of the University of Ulster at Christ Church in Derry. Grieg's piano concert will be performed by Belfast-born University of St Andrew's student Maebh Martin, pictured, daughter of acclaimed composer Neil Martin, along with Faure's Requiem conducted by Dr Shaun Ryan, senior lecturer in music at the University of Ulster. On Thursday March 26 at 1pm, the New Music Ensemble will perform a free concert at the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen's University. The programme will feature solo performances by two local St Andrew's students: rising opera star Ben MacAteer and Maebh Martin. n Tickets will be available on the door priced at £8/£6.
