HYUNDAI i20: SOMETHING SMALL...

MOVING ON UP: Hyundai's new i20, which goes on sale this month, looks set to be its most determined challenge yet to the established hierarchy in a class dominated by the Ford Fiesta.

Designed, engineered and built in Europe, the i20 will be priced from £10,695 when it arrives in showrooms in January.

There are five trim levels, and even the entry-level S comes well kitted, with electric front windows, remote central locking, six airbags, tinted windows and an RDS radio with USB connectivity.

Further up the range Hyundai has included air conditioning, cruise control, Bluetooth, parking sensors, auto headlights and wipers plus heated front seats and steering wheel and opening panoramic glass sunroof.

The top-of-the-range Premium SE model costs £16,725.

Engines include 1.2- and 1.4-litre petrol units and 1.1- and 1.4-litre diesels.

Later in the year a slinky three-door coupe version is due to join the range.

In other Hyundai news, the company has added a sporty Turbo model to the i30 range and facelifted the i40 saloon and estate.
