Tyrone film club's tops

DUNGANNON Film Club (DFC) was crowned Film Society of the Year at the Cinema For All awards in Sheffield at the weekend. The annual awards acknowledge the achievements of independent film societies. DFC, which has been going for just over a year, brought home the top title for Marketing and Publicity as well as the Community award, in addition to the overall title. Presenting the awards, Danny Leigh, co-presenter of BBC's Film 2014, said of DFC: "The judges were astounded at what this new society has achieved in little over a year. These guys have come in like a whirlwind and shaken up what film societies are all about."

DFC chairman Christopher Begley thanked Newcastle Community Cinema in Co Down - overall winner for the past two years - for its help and guidance.

The judges were impressed with DFC's artwork which features striking imagery from movies, all of which is done by local graphic artist Mark Reihill.

In announcing DFC as winner of the Community award, the judges had high praise for their foreign language posters aimed at the wide range of new national communities in Dungannon. "We work very hard to make DFC a fun organisation for the volunteers and the patrons. Since none of us get paid for it, being named Film Society of the Year is the best reward we could receive," Begley said.
