Lisa Haynes comes face-to-face with technology via a bio-electric facial

HI-TECH products are the buzz word in beauty, but often it's the application that makes all the difference.

Enter Elemis' super-charged Biotec facials, which are powered by bio-electric technology.

I visit the Elemis Day Spa in London for a skin scan and facial assessment report, which determines the type of Biotec facial that's best suited to my needs.

There are seven customisable facials powered by five treatment technologies.

A couple of bright flashes later and I'm met with frighteningly accurate graphic images highlighting spots, wrinkles, texture, pores, pigmentation and red areas.

My therapist, Grace, decides that the Sonic Skin-Radiance Facial would help plump my skin and boost radiance. After a holiday in Greece and too much sun, my skin was crying out for some serious hydration.

The big white Biotec machine sits behind my comfy treatment, bed but it doesn't do all the work.

It's a three-step treatment fusion combining technology, skin lift touch (via the therapist) and high-potency actives (delivered by products).

This means that you're still getting the joys of the therapist's massage alongside the impressive benefits of the bio-technology. There's no welcome touch or relaxation ritual, it's straight in with a thorough cleanse and tone.

Next up, Grace uses the ultra-sonic peeling device to exfoliate, which is pain-free, and followed up by a brightening Radiance Activator mask that's packed with vitamins and minerals.

As my skin absorbs the high-potency products, I'm treated to a short but blissful neck, chest and shoulder massage. The mask is removed, toner applied again, followed by another hydra-active gel mask. Grace uses the pronged galvanic rejuvenating device over the mask to deliver positive and negative ions. I feel tiny tingling charges near my earlobes when the device sweeps over my face, but no pain.

Excess product from the mask is pushed into my skin, but Grace tells me that my face is so dehydrated, it practically soaked in the product by itself.

My complexion already feels more radiant and luminous, but is finished off with Absolute Eye Serum, Pro-Collagen Neck and Bust cream and Pro-Collagen Marine Cream for a triple moisture hit.

Biotec isn't quite as stress-relieving as other facials, but I don't think I've ever seen my face glow so much after just one treatment. I'll take impressive results over relaxation rituals, any day.
