Music City 2014, Saturday June 21, Derry

MUSIC City, Derry's 24-hour music festival, is set to return for its second year next Saturday.

The idea behind the event is to transform the entire city into a massive performance space for an entire day, with public particpation strongly encouraged. Everyone will be encouraged to join in with the music alongside acts including Our Krypton Son (pictured), The Rambling Boys of Pleasure, Solas, Ports, The Clameens, Ego The Jackal, Grim, Gerard McCrystal and many more.

Music City kicks off with the Dawn Chorus at Grianan of Aileach, Co Donegal, one of

Ireland's most spectacular ancient sites. This free event will see hundreds join Cór An Ghrianánchoir to celebrate the summer solstice and welcome the official start of Music City from 3.30am. Following on from the morning performance, stages will open up across the city on Guildhall Square, Waterloo Place, The Craft Village, The Quayside and the city walls from 10am, with the Roaring Meg busking competition taking place within between 12.30pm and 4.30pm. Music City will round off with BBC Radio Ulster presenting the Ulster Orchestra at the Guildhall from 8pm and Salsa Celtica in The Glassworks from 9pm.
