Goonies 2

IN 1985 every kid wanted two things: their own DeLorean time machine and the chance to be a Goonie - because "Goonies never say die."

Now, director Richard Donner has got grown-up Goonies in a frenzy of anticipation by announcing plans for a belated sequel to his beloved Steven Spielberg-written adventure film about a group of misfit kids hunting pirate treasure.

Best of all, Donner wants to bring back as many of the original Goonies as possible - "hopefully, all of them", to be precise. Thus, we could soon be catching up with Mikey (Sean Astin), Mouth (Corey Feldman), Chunk (Jeff Cohen), Data (Ke Huy Quan) and co 30 years down the line from their subterranean battle with the Frattellis. One Goonie who won't be returning to utter the immortal words "hey, you guys" is Sloth, AKA former NFL defensive end John Daniel 'Tooz'

Matuszak. Sadly, this Goonie actually did die, in 1989. While Mama Fratelli (Anne Ramsey) is also long-gone, the rest of the cast (including Josh 'Brad' Brolin) are still alive and kicking. However, with 83-year-old Donner himself not getting any younger, it seems like a case of now or never for this particular reunion to be handled correctly. No word yet on whether Cyndi Lauper will be penning a follow-up to her soundtrack hit

'R' Good Enough.
