ICT bursary scheme launched

An AnnuAl bursary scheme, which recognises the achievements of pupils studying ICT, has been launched.

The Mary Kane Award has been established in memory of the former C2k implementation manager who was passionate about ICT and its transformational impact on teaching and learning.

As well as recognising the highest achieving students at both GCSE and A-level, the bursary also encourages best practice within schools.

The first recipient of the annual bursary is Portadown College student, lauren Cornett who was the top performing ICT A-level student in 2012.

lauren was presented with £500 of ICT equipment and a cheque for £1,000 to support the continuation of her studies.

Portadown College and its students also benefit from an investment of £1,000 in the latest ICT equipment, supplied by Capita Managed IT Solutions. "Thanks to our long-standing partnership with Capita, we're thrilled that Mary's legacy lives on through this important bursary," Avril Allen, C2k service delivery manager said. "We congratulate lauren on her achievements and hope her success encourages others to commit to ICT at school and beyond as it remains one of the key

driving forces of northern Ireland's knowledge-based economy."

Glenn Parkinson, Capita client delivery manager, said the award was a very fitting memorial to Ms Kane who was a great advocate for technology and the far reaching educational benefits it delivers for young people.
