Search is on to find Ireland's fittest family
THE search is on for the fittest, fastest and strongest families in Ireland.
An upcoming RTE television show is seeking to whittle down contenders, via thorough physical and scientific testing, to 12 families who will qualify to enter what programme makers say will be "the most extreme fitness competition ever".
Ireland's Fittest Family, from the makers of Celebrity Bainisteoir, will see these "elite families" compete against each other over six weeks on some of the toughest endurance courses in the country.
After each event the weakest family will be eliminated, until there is just one family standing.
The winning family will walk away with a €15,000 cash prize and the title of Ireland's Fittest Family 2013.
Overseeing the process will be four mentors, well known faces from the world of Irish sport.
They will oversee the families, working with them each week on fitness, dietary plans, and coach them "to elite levels".
Already signed up are Olympic boxing champion Kenneth Egan, international rugby coach Eddie O'Sullivan and Clare GAA bainisteoir Davy Fitzgerald.
Each family team will be comprised of four immediate members - eg grandparents, parents, children, stepchildren. There must be a minimum of one parent and one male or one female on a team.
The minimum age is 14 years old on July 1 2013. There is no maximum age.
