The coronavirus death toll in the Republic of Ireland has risen to 174, with 16 deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the National Public Health emergency team has said.

To date 244 people have lost their lives to Covid-19 on the island of Ireland. A further seven have died in Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 70.

Of the 16 who died in the Republic in the past 24 hours, 10 were males and six were females.

Five of those who lost their lives were in the west of the country, 11 in the east, and four had underlying health conditions.

To date 175 people with Covid-19 have been admitted to intensive care units and 33 have since been discharged.
