NHS workers are to receive free travel on public transport during the Covid-19 crisis.

From today, Health and Social Care Trust workers can show their work pass to Translink staff to avail of free travel.

Others operating in the private sector such as care homes can claim free travel by showing photographic ID and a letter signed by their employer.

Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon said the decision was to recognise the "tireless and vital work of all health and social care workers".

Public transport timetabled services are being further reduced.

Ms Mallon said the reduction was due to people being advised to stay at home where possible during the pandemic.
