House prices in Northern Ireland rose by 5.7 per cent over the past year, according to official figures.

A report by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the Land Registry and other bodies showed the average house price here is £125,000. That compares to £97,428 at the bottom of the market in 2012, but way off the bubble-era peak of £224,670.

In Britain, London has the highest average house price, at £475,000. The North East of England has the lowest, at £124,000.

In February, the most expensive borough to live in was Kensington and Chelsea, where the average price for a house was £1.4 million. The cheapest place to purchase a property was Blaenau Gwent in South Wales, where the average price for a house was £78,000.
