THE McAvoy Group has named a new chief executive in the latest change for the offsite construction specialist.

Ron Clarke, who spent 30 years with the Graham construction group, has taken over the top role just seven months after he was appointed McAvoy’s chief operating officer.

The company said Mark Lowry, who was appointed CEO in 2019, will remain with the business as a non-executive director.

Mr Lowry took over from Eugene Lynch just prior to London financier Mubashir Mukadam acquiring a controlling interest in the company during early 2020.

It followed a difficult two years for the company. McAvoy, which sold its flagship site in Co Tyrone as part of a significant restructuring process, said it had returned to profitability for the six months ending April 30 2021.

The company recently secured a series of new education projects totalling £39 million, including one of the UK’s very first low carbon school buildings.

McAvoy has also announced Martin Daly as its new chief financial officer, with Stephen Clayton promoted to preconstruction director. Meanwhile Glen Busby has been promoted to head to firm’s modular hire and sales division.

Reacting to his appointment, Ron Clarke said: “I am looking forward to taking the business into the next phase of its development. We continue to make significant investments in growing the company, including the expansion of our hire fleet.”

Mark Lowry said: “Despite the challenges facing the construction industry during the last 18 months McAvoy has performed well, supported by Blantyre who have stewarded the business through a steep transition period.

“I’m pleased to be handing the reins to Ron, who benefits from a huge amount of experience in the construction industry, and I’ve no doubt he will be an excellent leader as McAvoy continues to evolve, focusing on long-term sustainability and resilience, underpinned by an effective ESG strategy.”
