Dublin IT firm Codec to create 20 new jobs in Belfast office

DUBLIN-based IT solutions company Codec has announced a £1.7 million investment in Belfast, creating 20 new jobs.

The company, which opened an office on Great Victoria Street in 2016, also operates in Galway, Cork, London, Germany and Poland, with a staff of just over 200.

Its clients include Microsoft, Dell, Zurich, AIB, Bank of Ireland, Dublin Airport Authority and Tourism NI.

Invest NI has offered the firm £125,000 toward the new jobs, which will include project managers, IT services consultants and technical support.

Codec’s commercial lead in Belfast, John Molly, said the company has displayed resilence throughout the pandemic, adapting its technology and working practices.

“Our Belfast office is crucial to our sustained growth and the new team members will be at the forefront of delivering our global business strategy,” he said.

“By growing our workforce, we will add to our expertise and knowledge of analytics, cloud and mobile technology, so that we can expand our customer offering.

“This will enable us to increase our export success in Great Britain, Germany and the Nordics.”

Invest originally backed Codec’s move to Belfast in 2016.

George McKinney, director of technology and services at the economic support body, said the latest investment will more than double the IT firm’s workforce in the city.

“Over 70 per cent of new investors reinvest in Northern Ireland, which is testament to the excellence and resilience of our local talent.

The digital sector will be a major driver in the recovery of the economy and the additional annual salaries of £900,000 are a welcome contribution towards this.

“With our support, Codec will be able to increase its capabilities, remain competitive in the high-tech sector, and break into new international markets.”
