A NEW energy supplier has entered the market in Northern Ireland with the aim of bringing affordable green energy to customers under one simple tariff.

Bright Energy says it is not just another supplier, but on a mission ‘to change how the market works by putting the power in consumers’ hands’.

And the venture by Bright Energy, a partnership between two local family businesses Evermore Energy and the Maxol Group, will create 20 full-time jobs at its Belfast headquarters.

“From today, households in Northern Ireland can now switch away from expensive and overly-complicated bills to a simpler, less costly and more sustainable solution with us," says Bright chief executive Ciaran Devine.

Technology is front and centre of the approach at Bright (www.brightenergy.com), with the company claiming its simplified approach will change how people manage and pay for their gas and electricity.

“A huge part of our focus has been on creating a user-experience like no other. We’ve all seen recently how technology can make our lives easier. Our specially designed app gives our customers more control over their bills and will save them time and money.

“We are offering something different to anything else on the market. This is energy supply in a digital age that benefits customers and protects the world around us, and we’re confident that for anyone who joins the Bright community, it will be their last switch,” added Ciaran.

He and his brother Stephen also own Evermore, which has already built an £83m biomass-fuelled power station in Derry and is now working toward an even larger gas-fired plant at Belfast Harbour.

Maxol Group chief executive Brian Donaldson said: “Renewable and sustainable choices have been central to our operations for many years, and when it comes to environmental initiatives, 2020 has been our most prolific.

“We want to make the greener choice the easier choice for all our customers and the launch of Bright is one of a number of programmes that tangibly demonstrates our commitment to the environment.

“A move into renewables is part of our diversification strategy, and today’s launch is a sign of our long-term intent.”
