THE group behind the north's largest taxi firms has completed work on a-575 space premium parking facility on Belfast’s Grosvenor Road.

The move by Value Car Parks is part of an overall £20 million investment by the McCausland Group, which is marking its 100th year in business.

The development also includes 7,000 sq ft of new grade A office space, which will be occupied by the group on the site where the business was originally established.

McCausland Group, which already operates a number of car parks and taxi firms in the north, said it was confident the investment would provide a boost for Belfast city centre's retail, hospitality and tourism economy.

The scheme was part-backed by the Northern Ireland Investment Fund and aligns with the car parking strategy for the city, releasing pressure from low density ground-floor car parks.

But its opening comes at a time when the number of shoppers, workers and revellers commuting into Belfast has been vastly reduced due to the fall-out from the Covid pandemic.

The 12-level facility boasts a spacious design that traditional multi-storey car parks, including wider spaces, driveways and ramps and with no obstructing bollards for a more user-friendly and accessible experience.

And to complement other measures across the city, it also includes charging points for electric and hybrid vehicles.

Christopher McCausland, managing director at Value Car Parks and McCausland Group, said: “We know the availability of affordable and accessible parking is hugely important for workers, shoppers and visitors.

“So at a time when people are beginning to safely return to the city, we’re confident this additional capacity will provide a much-needed boost.”

“We're also delighted that, through the office provision, we can return our headquarters to the Grosvenor Road, where our business has operated since 1920.”

He added: “Value Car Parks will embed the same ethos of quality, service and value that has made Value Cabs a success.”

Value Car Parks is the latest evolution of the McCausland’s Value brand, which has been a crucial part of the city’s transport infrastructure through Value Cabs for nearly 25 years.
