Centra introduces compostable shopping bags
IRISH convenience retailer Centra has introduced 100 per cent compostable and reusable shopping bags in all its stores in the north.
The company says it's the first chain here to make the move. Made from a blend of renewable and raw materials, Centra says the 75p bag can eventually be disposed in a compost bin.
The retailer has also committed to making all the packaging for its own brand and fruit and vegetables recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.
Managing director of Centra in the north, Michael McCormack said: “This compostable bag is just one of the changes we are making to ensure we fulfil this commitment. We are delighted to be the first convenience retailer to take this step, helping to make consumers future shop at Centra a more sustainable one.”
