Equity injection spurts growth phase at kitchen supplier BA Components

COOKSTOWN manufacturer BA Kitchen Components has grown its sales, profits and staff numbers on the back of a cash injection from Dutch-based equity partner H2.

Accounts in the year to March 31 last show that the firm, established in 1990 by twin brothers Brian and Kieran McCracken and which is a specialist in making kitchen and bedroom doors and furniture parts, grew revenues from £27.8 million to £29.6 million.

Operating profit over the period also lifted from £3.3m to £3.6m, while its total payroll rose slightly to 251 (it's pay bill is now close to £6.9m).

It follows BA revealing two years ago that it had been equity-backed by H2 to help support its strategy of continued investment in its manufacturing sites (it also makes parts in Doncaster and Rotherham) and product development.

In a strategic report with the results filed at Companies House, the directors said they were committed to long-term creation of shareholder value by increasing market share in Irish, UK and global markets.

They said 2019 saw the continued outworking of that growth strategy, with "substantial progress" made in new product development, investment in machinery and people, and the firm's movement into producing "complete kitchens".

At the time of the investment from H2, BA's managing director Brian McCracken said: “We chose to partner with H2 based on their good knowledge of our sector and excellent track record built up over 26 years of working with family-owned businesses.

“Both Kieran (McCracken) and myself will remain actively involved in the business and we look forward to working with H2 to build on the core drivers of BA’s success which are a broad range of high quality products and excellent customer service.”
