COMBER-based family farming and food enterprise Mash Direct has landed a new supply contract which will see its festive vegetable-based party food lines stocked in Asda stores across the north.

Reflecting the growing trend for easy home entertaining and effortless Christmas dining, three new seasonal lines - duck bites, stuffing bites, and ham & cheese bites - have been introduced by Mash Direct.

The new products complement the firm's increasingly diverse fresh vegetable range which has been stocked in Asda since 2006 (some 29 product lines are now supplied to Asda in Northern Ireland).

Over the years the company has developed a strong working relationship with the retailer through close co-operation and involvement in initiatives such as the Supplier Development Academy.

Emma Swan, buying manager for Asda NI Local, said: “We’ve worked closely with the team at Mash Direct and have always been impressed by its fresh thinking and innovative approach to product development. This ethos is captured in the new festive party range - top quality, market-focused local products that our customers know and trust.”

Lance Hamilton, sales director at Mash Direct, said: “Our research shows that consumers want to enjoy quality, locally-sourced food which fits in with busy lifestyles.

“We sought out to create a party range that sparked our festive taste buds as well as offering the convenience of little preparation and quick cooking times, and we're pleased to deliver our locally produced innovative range of Christmas Bites to Asda customers.”

:: In report in Friday's business pages detailing the company's latest annual accounts, Mash Direct has asked us to point out that £600,000 worth of stock which was written off in the US in 2018 after a major co-operative in New York kept postponing its launch was not allowed to rot as indicated in the headline, but was, in fact, handed out to the needy. We are happy to clarify this point.
