INVEST NI’s outgoing chief executive Alastair Hamilton has said he expects his replacement to be confirmed within the next four to six weeks.

The high profile business figure announced his shock departure in March after ten years as head of the economic support body.

The search for the new chief executive, which will have a starting salary of around £160,000, was launched by Belfast-based recruitment firm Clarendon Executive in June.

Speaking yesterday, Mr Hamilton said while his successor will bring their own style to the job, he believes he can help with the transition.

“Whenever the announcement was made, I made it very clear that I wanted to give the organisation the best opportunity to recruit a successor.

“My ambition is to be able to transfer some of my experience. I’ve been ten years in the job, you gather a lot of experience over that period of time. But you also build a lot of contacts and connections.

“A successor to me will want to do the job differently and I wouldn’t want to interfere with that at all, but I want to be able to transfer that.

“I don’t intend to go to another full time job, therefore I have the ability to do that.”
