A US financial services firm has opened a new Belfast office in response to rapid growth in the city.

New York-headquartered Cowen International, which set up in Belfast in 2013, has moved to a new office at the newly renovated Bedford House.

The move is a response to growth in the business, where staff numbers have increased from 10 at its inception in the city to 60.

Cowen’s office, which opened yesterday, is located on the first floor of Bedford House and the Belfast team is led by; Ian Wasson, Eamon O’Neill and Margaret Dolan.

Chief operating officer at Cowen International, Michael Page said the new Belfast office will help support further growth in the city.

"We are excited to move our growing team into new offices at Bedford House in the Linen Quarter of Belfast,” he said

“Over the past 10 years, Belfast has established itself as a growing center for technology and financial service businesses in Europe. Cowen’s investment into new office space reflects not only our commitment to Belfast, but our confidence in its high-quality talent base.”

“Over the last four years Cowen has grown its operational presence in Belfast significantly, starting with one business line to now supporting over six. This is a great achievement for Cowen and the Belfast operations team, and further testament to the talent available. As we look to accelerate our growth in Belfast, we will benefit from Cowen’s unique entrepreneurial culture, which boasts the support and stability of a larger financial services firm, with the opportunities and access to leadership of a growth company," Mr Page said.

John Holmes, Cowen’s chief operating officer added:

“2019 marks Cowen’s seventh year with a presence in Belfast. It has been remarkable to see the steady, reliable growth of our operations not only in Belfast, but across Europe. Cowen is committed to continuing to strengthen its presence in the pan-European region, as seen through recent acquisitions and hires, and our Belfast team will be essential to support this growth. We look forward to strengthening our capabilities in this competitive space and expanding our reach on a global basis.”
