THE number of employee jobs in the north has increased by 2 per cent to over 770,000, the latest official figures show.

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) data, which covers the year to September 2018 shows a jump of 15,014 in registered jobs from 756,365 to 771,379.

The figures cover both full and part-time roles, but do not include the self-employed.

Looking closer at the research, all four headline industries recorded an increase in jobs. The services industry, which dominates the local job market, reported an increase of almost 2 per cent (10,405 jobs) in employee jobs in the year to September , while construction roles grew in number by 891 (2.6 per cent).

The largest proportional growth was reported in manufacturing, with a spike of 3.8 per cent, pushing numbers up by 3,146. The 'other' industry also an increase of 2.5 per cent (573 jobs) over the year to September.

Public sector jobs grew by 2.1 per cent over the 12-month period, while an increase of 1.9 per cent was reported in the private sector.

All council areas in the north reported a growth in employee jobs, except for Antrim and Newtownabbey, which posted a decrease of 1 per cent.

The Mid Ulster Council recorded the largest proportional increase in employee jobs of 4.8 per cent (2,679 jobs).
