LEADING UK clothing and homeware retailer Next is to open a new larger store at The Quays in Newry tomorrow.

Next will open the doors on its 27,000 sq ft concept store, located at the 'Phase Five' extension of the shopping complex beside Marks and Spencer and PureGym. It is moving from its current home within the original shopping mall.

The move, which will double the size of the store and see the introduction of a Ground Espresso coffee bar and a Virgin Holidays outlet, is expected to create a number of new jobs.

The Graham Group in Co Down carried out the fit-out of the new Next store.

Quays general manager, Cathal Austin welcomed the latest investment in the local economy.

"It shows confidence in The Quays at a time of uncertainty over Brexit that Next has committed to the centre," he said.

"The owners of the centre have also committed a multi-million pound investment in Newry so that's very positive for the area."

Meanwhile Primark will open its new larger store at the Abbey Centre in Newtownabbey today.

The retailer is moving from its current unit to the former BHS store, upsizing trading space significantly to 26,700 sq ft

Emma Mackenzie, director at NewRiver REIT, owners of Abbey Centre, Newtownabbey added:

“We are thrilled to have secured Primark’s upsize at Newtownabbey, testifying the growing popularity of the Abbey Centre as a convenient fashion retail and leisure destination for the community and beyond.”
