ANTRIM-based tyre management company Kerr’s Group has acquired the Maher family's Dublin-based tyre operations for an undisclosed sum, effectively Brexit-proofing the business in the process

The Maher family businesses have been trading for 45 years in the greater Dublin area, providing service for the construction, truck, car and van sectors trading as Auto Tyre Services and Rathoath Vulcanising and Tyre Services.

Kerr’s Tyres will rebrand all the business as Auto Tyre Services and in the coming weeks will open two additional Dublin centres in Donabate and Ballymount.

The Maher family will continue as part of the management team.

The acquisition complements Kerr’s existing business model which already operates in the Dublin area, bringing the Kerr’s Tyre Group up to operating from 10 centres, and decreases their reliance on using sub-contractors for their commercial users.

Kerr’s Tyres Group managing director Norman Kerr said: “ This is our second acquisition in the last six months, demonstrating our growth ambitions.

"The Maher businesses had an excellent reputation and very experienced staff and this will secure Kerr’s geographical presence in the Leinster region.

"With the uncertainty around Brexit still to be clarified we felt more than ever we had to put a solid foundation in the area to ensure our business and that of our customers kept flowing uninterrupted."

He added: "We are excited with the opportunities that this will present to us bringing additional infrastructure, securing market share, and combining our expertise for further strategic growth.”

Mr Kerr said the integration of the two business will bring additional expertise, bespoke services and resources to provide an even better customer experience.
