IRELAND's largest family-operated foodservice firm has opened its seventh store in the north in a £1 million investment.

Lynas has created 14 jobs at its new 5,800 sq ft food outlet on the Boucher Road in Belfast.

Situated at the former home of electronics retailer Maplin, the branch offers a cash and carry service to trade customers, but is also open to the public.

Lynas Foodservice managing director, Andrew Lynas said the latest store is part of an ongoing investment programme at the company.

“We have enjoyed rapid growth over the last number of years as part of our continued investment programme, which has included the launch of Lynas Scotland, the acquisition of a 10-acre site in Coleraine, a 10-acre site and warehouse in Lusk, Co Dublin and a company rebrand," Mr Lynas said.

"2019 is set to be another busy year as we have plans for continued expansion across Ireland and Scotland.”

The new Boucher Road store features the brand's craft butchery, Causeway Prime and in a nod to company founder, Bobby Lynas, a food-to-go section, featuring sandwiches and baked goods known as 'Bobby’s Good To Go'.

Lynas Foodservice is a third-generation family owned business that has been supplying food to customers throughout Ireland for over 70 years.

The company, founded in Coleraine, employs over 500 staff and distributes over 6,000 grocery, chilled, frozen and non-food products.

There are now seven Lynas Food Outlets across Northern Ireland in Belfast, Ballymena, Bangor, Coleraine, Derry and Newry.
