NOKIA’S chief executive for the UK and Ireland, Cormac Whelan, will be the keynote speaker at the next NI Chamber of Commerce's 'Growing Something Brilliant' event taking place in the MAC in Belfast on Tuesday November 13 (from 8.30am-10.30am) in partnership with Electric Ireland.

The leadership series seeks to inspire business people, focusing on the importance of inspirational leadership in boosting productivity, performance and success.

Mr Whelan, who will be in conversation with BBC news reporter Mark Simpson, will be discussing leadership, disruption in the marketplace and how to overcome it, as well as innovation and business development.

Originally from Dublin, he will share insights into his own business journey throughout a dynamic and distinguished career path where he has spent more than two decades in a number of global blue-chip organisations as senior executive, gaining extensive experience in sales, marketing, strategic planning and business development.

Prior to his current position Cormac led the Alcatel-Lucent business in the UK & Ireland and has also worked in senior roles at BT and international roles at UUNET and Motorola.

In his role as CEO, Cormac leads all operations for the UK & Ireland markets including sales, business management, delivery and operations.

Since joining Nokia eight years ago, Cormac has steered the company through some significant changes using his expertise in strategic planning and change management to build the company’s market credentials.

NI Chamber chief executive Ann McGregor said: “The event will provide our members with an opportunity to hear first-hand from the head of a global leader in innovations such as mobile networks, digital health and phones.

“The aim of the Growing Something Brilliant events is to show how exceptional management and leadership can transform a company – and there are few better examples than Cormac Whelan who has led Nokia through some significant changes over the past number of years.”

Tony Dunlea, manager of business sales at Electric Ireland, added: “We’re delighted to again support the Growing Something Brilliant Leadership series, which is providing real valuable support to Northern Ireland businesses.

"There are both opportunities and challenges ahead for the local business sector which is why it is important to think differently, disrupt and innovate.

"Our partnership of the series underpins our commitment to support our customers by providing smart solutions for every aspect of their business and we look forward to the insights and learnings Cormac will share with us.”
