AN international health conference is set to generate £1.2 million for Belfast.

The city will play host to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Healthy City Conference (IHCC) next week at Belfast Waterfront from October 1 to 4, with 600 delegates expected.

The prestigious event, which is held every five years, celebrates 30 years of the European Healthy Cities as a network and global movement and will bring together delegates from across the globe including health professionals, politicians, engineers, design professionals, mayors, innovators and activists.

Belfast Healthy Cities chief executive, Joan Devlin, said: “Belfast was one of the first 15 cities to be formally designated as a ‘WHO Healthy City’ in 1998 and we are delighted to welcome the conference to Belfast 30 years on.

“The Northern Ireland public health strategy Making Life Better is focused on reducing health inequalities and the event will be a unique opportunity to learn from the work of other Healthy Cities across the globe and share ways to improve health and well-being.”
