A NEW Eurospar supermarket is set to create 50 jobs in Derry later this year.

The Lynch family, who operate a network of stores across the county are opening a new 7,000 sq ft (650 sq m) premises in the Skeoge area in November, with recruitment already underway for more than 50 jobs at the store. The roles - a mixture of full and part-time, include an assistant manager, deli supervisor, butchery supervisor and a post-office supervisor.

The Skeoge area of Derry has undergone a huge transformation in recent years with numerous housing developments attracting an increased number of residents. The significant investment in the store will provide much-needed services and a jobs boost to the city.

A spokesperson from the Lynch family said they are looking forward to opening the doors to the new store in the autumn, with work already underway on site.

“This Eurospar store will provide essential services to the area including a post office, ATMs, Barista Bar coffee station, deli counter, butchers and local bakery. With 70 car-parking spaces and fuel pumps, Lynch’s Eurospar will be a one stop shop for residents and those passing through this busy area.

“We know from our other stores that a local supermarket is so much more than a convenient place to pick up essentials. It becomes a hub for the community and as Skeoge continues to grow, we want to work with the local community, supporting the causes that matter to them.”

Sarah Halliday, channel sales manager at the Henderson Group, who own or lease stores under the Eurospar brand in the north, added:

“The new store in Skeoge will be the 63rd Eurospar in Northern Ireland and we’re confident that the brand can continue to grow and expand well beyond this. Shoppers across Northern Ireland have really embraced this style of supermarket; a community supermarket that offers a fantastic range of products but still maintains a strong local focus and acts as hub for the whole community. We look forward to work completing at the store and wish the Lynch family well with this exciting venture.”
