THE new £30 million Blair Mayne wellbeing and leisure complex, originally envisaged in 2006 and which is now just five months from fruition, will be a game-changer for the Ards & North Down Borough, according to mayor Richard Smart.

Individuals and families in the borough and from across the north will soon be able to take advantage of a brand new state-of-the art wellbeing and leisure complex that is scheduled to open this winter.

The investment is set to deliver the most modern and advanced leisure amenities in the north, including contemporary gym and fitness studios, luxury spa with sensory areas; holistic and beauty therapies; six-lane main pool and minor pool with moveable floors, a splash play area for toddlers and young children; a soft play area and blacklight adventure zone as well as a vibrant new 100 seat café.

There will also be an innovative astroturf area called the Dome offering a range of marked spaces for games and sports. Focused on sports development activities for schools and the wider community it will help develop skills in a conducive indoor environment.

A diversity play zone with sensory garden, pump track for biking and wheel park for skateboarding, scooters, BMX and inline skating will feature in the outdoor space at the complex.

Inspecting progress on the scheme, Cllr Smart said: "These new facilities will offer a tremendous boost for the social, leisure and economic wellbeing of those, not only living in Newtownards, but right across the borough. It will quite literally transform our whole leisure provision."
