Top Friesians vie for Bailey's champion title

At the launch of the 35th Diageo Baileys Champion Dairy Cow competition at the Baileys production site in Dublin are Hannah Yarr, Deirdre McKenna and Bill O'Neill, Bottle Hall workers with Caislean Fever Rose

EMPLOYEES at the Diageo Baileys Global Supply site in Dublin site took time out from the bottling hall to meet Caishlean Fever Rose, a 2½ year old heifer, who was on a visit to the factory to help launch the 2018 Diageo Baileys Champion Cow competition.

Entries are now open from Holstein Friesian breeders from Northern Ireland for this year's event.

Co Down farmer Sam McCormick won the top title at last year's event.

Whether the 35th champion will come from a Northern Ireland farm will be decided on August 22 at the Virginia Show in Co Cavan, when cows from all over the island will compete for the €10,000 prize fund.
