SDLP Councillor, Donal Lyons joins from Fancy Fayre, Decora Blinds,Whinstone Lighting, Raffos, Glen Florist, Zest Beauty Clinic and Action Cancer at the launch of 'West£pend'

WEST Belfast businesses are to benefit from a new council scheme to provide sustained marketing and PR support over the next nine months.

A host of businesses from the local area have opted to participate in the £20,000 Belfast City Council scheme, 'West£pend', designed to alleviate pressures created by the ongoing construction works resultant from projects such as the exciting new rebuild of Andersonstown Leisure Centre and Belfast Rapid Transport.

Initiatives such as targeted marketing and advertising, event management, positive PR and signposting of council support will be provided to any business which opts into the new scheme.

The core aims of the initiative are to enhance footfall in the designated area, maintain existing business, drive new business, create innovation and showcase the area as a consumer friendly space.

Donal Lyons, chair of the Council's city growth and regeneration committee said the new scheme was welcome.

“It is no secret that many businesses have been under pressure with the ongoing construction works in Andersonstown, therefore, with the support of the local community, this initiative will provide a much needed boost to businesses."

Businesses positioned along the top of the Andersonstown Road right down to Whiterock on the Falls Road are all eligible to participate, and while all in this designated area have been approached, there is still time to get involved.
