A BELFAST building firm has been awarded a lucrative contract as part of the £15 million refurbishment at Belfast City Airport.

H&J Martin Fit Out has been awarded an eight-week contract with new client, World Duty Free, housed in the terminal building. Works will consist of the provision of a retail space within the refurbished departure lounge and includes the installation of new flooring, mechanical and electrical and all finished joinery within the scheme.

The new space will be complete and open to passengers by early July.

Speaking about the new deal H&J Martin director, William Sproule said: “The team at H&J Martin Fit Out are delighted to have secured their first contract award with World Duty Free at our local Belfast City Airport. Our dedicated team is committed to providing the highest quality works within budget and to the highest safety standards.”

David Lister from World Duty Free said they were pleased to be working with the local firm on the "prestigious project".

"We require a high-quality finish to our stores and we appointed H&J Martin Fit Out after extensive vetting and a competitive tendering process and were impressed with their portfolio and professional approach to the contract.”

Joanne Deighan, commercial manager at Belfast City Airport, added:

“This work is part of a strategic £15m investment by the airport that will see the retail space in the departure lounge increase by more than 30 per cent and food and beverage facilities expand by 25 per cent with a broader choice for passengers.

“As a result of this significant capital expenditure, the customer journey through the airport will be further enhanced."

In April 2015, H&J Martin joined the Lagan Specialist Contracting Group and operate three main divisions; Asset Management Services, Construction and Fit Out from their Belfast headquarters.
