THE Dublin-based Four Star Pizza chain says it is on target to launch at least six more stores across the north over the next two years, creating 100-plus jobs in the process.

It came as the company opened its first takeaway and restaurant in Dundonald in a £150,000 investment which has provided work for 20 people in the area.

The new outlet is the pizza chain’s 50th location across the island of Ireland, and was officially opened by Northern Ireland’s world number-five darts star Daryl Gurney, who was in town ahead of his Premier League clash - and subsequent victory - over world champion Rob Cross at a sold-out SSE Arena.

The pizzeria (www.fourstarpizza.co.uk) is expected to deliver more than 80,000 fresh pizzas to homes in the Dundonald and Comber areas over the next 12 months - using over one million pepperoni slices, 10 tonnes of cheese and 17 tonnes of flour in the process.

And Scott Higginson, managing director of the Dundonald store (he also operates four other Four Star Pizza franchises in Belfast, Newtownabbey and Carrickfergus) said he's confident the new store will hit the bullseye with locals.

“We opened our first store in East Belfast in May 1999, and although it has been a massive success, given the area's growth we've been unable to properly service a large portion of the Dundonald area.

"This new outlet in Hanwood Business Park will service both Dundonald and Comber, improving the service to our existing customers and hopefully attracting even more pizza lovers.”

Four Star Pizza is a wholly Irish-owned Pizza chain established in 1988, and it has 13 stores in the north at locations in Belfast as well as Bangor, Coleraine, Carrickfergus, Newry, Drumahoe, Derry, Armagh and Newtownabbey.

Four Star Pizza is renowned for its pizza dough which is freshly prepared by hand on site daily by passionate and expertly trained pizza chefs, using top quality locally sourced flour.
